Media Abuzz Over New Katten Chair-Elect Gil Soffer

Several news organizations — including Bloomberg Law, Reuters, Law.com and Law360 — have featured articles covering the news that Gil Soffer has been tapped to become Katten's next chairman in July. Gil, a former federal prosecutor and currently head of Katten's Chicago office and co-chair of the firm's Litigation Department, will succeed Roger Furey, a Washington-based Intellectual Property partner and former chair of the firm's DC office who has been chair since 2016.

JD Journal observed that with Gil's extensive background in white-collar crime defense and history of firm leadership, his appointment "signals a strategic move to elevate the firm's standing in the legal landscape further."

"I'm excited about being able to steer the firm forward," Gil said in an interview with Bloomberg Law. "We've had really good years, and I think we're at an exciting point where we can grow, deepen our bench and get greater and more good work to elevate our brand."

Gil further told Bloomberg that Katten would continue to invest in signature practices such as its work in areas of finance as well as other areas, including corporate work.

Separately, Gil told Law360 how much he loves Katten and what an honor it is to be entrusted with the role of chair. "I have spent the bulk of my career here, and I am deeply grateful for the outstanding contributions of my colleagues, attorneys and business professionals, who make this a firm we can all be proud of," he said. "As we near our 50th year as a firm — clearly one that has thrived despite the challenges facing our industry — I look forward to continuing to deliver the highest levels of client service and building on the successes we have achieved under Roger and [CEO Noah Heller's] leadership."
